Disclaimer

I got this product as a review unit from See Audio. Except from the review unit, I did not receive money or any other necessities to influence the review on their favor. This is my honest and unbiased opinion on See Audio Yume 4. My likes and dislikes on this IEM are based solely on my own personal experience.

Design & Build Quality

The shell of the IEM looks quite aesthetic. The faceplate of the IEM is not separated from the body. The whole shell is molded into one. Sea audio’s branding is on the center with a silver tone, which adds an onto the design.

The shell is semitransparent and can be seen everything from outside. On both drivers there are glitters sparkling from inside. The nozzle is made out of silver and seems like it can be changed. On the inside of the shell there is branding of the model in yellow text, which personally I didn’t like.

The cable of the IEM is mentioned as 6n oxygen free copper cable with a silver plating. It’s a 3.5 mm two pin cable. The look of the cable is quite minimal, and durable. It’s solid and doesn’t have any memories. Despite not matching the color the IEM blends nicely with the drivers.

The stock ear tips are of good quality, they are comfortable. Reminds me of KBear 07 eartips.

The carrying case is the same as the TRN’s or the AFUL’s ones. Metal built with just the brand’s logo on the top. The IEM fits easily in it.

And again appreciate both the stand like objects ( I did my research to the an appropriate name for those two beautiful looking objects and end up naming them objects. Don’t blame me, the company forgot to mention that ) provided in the box. A beautiful anime girl with two different facial reactions, and a headband that symbolize Sea Audios logo. Also thanks for the silica gels! (I wonder if they’re editable)

Comfort

The shells are ideal for almost every types of ear out there in the wild. I can wear them for hours and hours and still manage to get up from my desk without any fatigues. The cable is pretty easy to manage, as if it manages itself. Having only BA drivers meaning it doesn’t have any vents, making it a beast in isolation.

But there are two major problems I’ve faced wearing them:

  1. The isolation is so strong that I can’t properly listen anything or anyone if I’m being called by someone. Even thought I’m not playing any music or anything.
  2. This one is severe, I fell extremely embraced while wearing them outside. Even though I don’t think much about what others might think of me. Even so, it’s too embracing.

Please solve this issue with the next model See Audio.

See Audio pairs well with anything as long as you pair it with an analogue sounding source. If the source’s Digital, you might notice BA timbers. The DACs mentioned above really well except Moondrop Dawn Pro. M15 fanboys please look elsewhere!

The plant didn’t come with the box, it’s mine!

I don’t usually mention this on my review, but for packaging, this one actually cut above the rest. Definitely it’s a premium experience.

I wonder if See Audio had any collaborations with DUNU, cause this IEM pairs well with every Ear tip from DUNU. Therefore, shout out to DUNU S&S, candy and Balanced.

Cable
  • Stock
  • KBear (Inspiration C) 4 core copper
  • NiceHCK mixPP

I really really really (YEAH REALLY) like the stock cable of Yume 4. But unfortunately this IEM pairs much better with copper cables without silver plating. 3.5 is more then sufficient to power it, but after using 4.4 on regular basis, there’s no going back. So both of the cables mentioned above will pair well.

If you don’t believe in cable’s influence on sound, you’re on your own!

Sound Quality

See Audio Yume 4 comes with a dual BA configuration. It’s musical yet a detailed and precise sounding, as you might expect from Balance Armature drivers. Even though it’s not a technical device, don’t sleep on it. starting from the bass to the treble region, it fails to disappoint me on most of the sound sections.

But there are defiantly shortcomings that we’re going to discuss later on this exact same review. But before all of that, let’s check the graph really quick. It looks weird right? Well don’t blame me, the best that I can do is explain how these weird looking lines sounds in real life. Let’s stop staring at the graph and start with the sub-bass.

See Audio Yume 4 Review: Wonder in a glass.

For reference, here’s a graph from Squiglink.

Sub-Bass

The sub-bass on Yume 4 is quite laid-back compared to the mid-bass. You can defiantly notice the lackings while listening to a bass heavy track. The bass doesn’t come alive as much. Other than not being a decently deep and rumbly bass, it’s got a smooth texture and it’s precise. Overall, it’s not that noteworthy compared to other regions.

Mid-Bass

The mid-bass on the other hand is more enjoyable. But it’s not possible to enjoy this region separating the sub-bass. The mid-bass is fast, punchy and decays really fast. Could have more texture and note weight behind, it does not have enough for me. It’s controlled and doesn’t have noticeable bass bleeding.

Mid-range

This is where the Yume 4 starts to shine. The mid-range is clean, slightly warm. It’s neither a thin nor a fuller mid-range. Instruments in this section does excellent jobs. The sound refined and detailed without creating any fatigue.

Male Vocals

Male vocals on this IEM sound clean, detailed with slight hint of warmth. Deep or fuller male vocals sounds the best on them. Vocals that sound thin by default (track manufacturing problem by the production) doesn’t sound as soothing. It’s most likely caused by the lacking sub-bass. It doesn’t sound sharp, but it’s defiantly forward by a slight margin. The texture is on the smoother side.

Female Vocals

Most of the female vocals sound really nice with Yume 4. The ascending on this sounds so natural! doesn’t create any sudden fatigue. The “ss/shh” sound is there but not that noticeable. The female vocals don’t sound sharp or laid back, really makes it a great option for female vocals. Whether they’re low-pitched vocals or an engaging screaming one, it will hardly disappoint you!

Caution: Might fall in love with the female artists if you listen to them for too long. The last thing I wanna do is to cause any marital problems!

Treble

The treble section was another impressing part of this device. It has such details, yet soo smooth. The instrument, especially the guitar sound so life like. It’s fast and precise. It could have some more energy; it seems to hold back. The drivers have more than enough potential to showcase more power and energy.

The upper treble also got details to cover you. It’s quite airy and feels decently spacious. The treble section is controlled really well, keeping the thoughts of sensitive ears in mind.

Instruments

Instruments with this device showcases a phenomenal job. Piano, harmonica has a soothing tone to them. Guitars, Ukulele and other string instruments sound precise without creating any type of fatigue. But the drums on this device don’t sound full, lacks body. Splashes sound too smooth. The bass guitars don’t sound correct.

Technical Performance

The technical performance of Yume is impressive. It has a great speed and precision. The soundstage isn’t wide, but I can’t call it narrow either. The Imaging is distinctly precise. I can’t help but praise how precisely it locates every single instrument. The same thing can be said during gaming. One information needed to be addressed that, the BA timber is noticeable, and might cause problem if someone’s sensitive to it.

Mobile Gaming

I’ve played Call of duty Mobile and Valorant on PC. The experience was amazing. The imaging is so precise that I was able to locate every enemy’s footstep nearby. Even the in-game voices were flexing their powers. The soundstage is not really that wide, so on full maps, firing sound becomes hard to track. Overall, I can freely recommend it to anyone even if they’re serious about gaming. For competitive games, there are better choices.

Why should you consider it
  • If you prefer clean mid-range
  • If you like female vocals
  • If you like airy treble
  • If you need precise imaging
  • If you’re a gamer
  • If you are sensitive to vocals and treble
  • If you enjoy a balanced sound
Why should you look elsewhere
  • If you’re a bass lover
  • If you’re looking for the widest soundstage
  • If you’re sensitive to BA timbers
  • If you’re embarrassed wearing it outside
