NMD Audio Neptune Cable Review

Alright so today we gonna talk about this fancy looking cable from NMD Audio, it’s called Neptune. Now lemme tell you straight, this ain’t your normal cable. It’s made from some Cryogenically Treated 6N OCC Copper and OCC Silver-Plated Copper, which sounds super high-end right? But the question is, does it sound any different? Well… yeah, it actually do. Let me break it all down for ya.

Build Quality & Comfort – Premium Feels with Minor Flaws

Now build-wise, this cable feels solid, no joke. Nice aluminum hardware, gold-plated connectors, and overall a clean twisted design. Looks premium and fancy for sure.

But here’s the thing:

  • It’s kinda heavy. Not super comfy for long sessions, specially if your IEMs already chunky.
  • The cable is stiff too, like it don’t bend as easily as you want.
  • Also, the color can get dirty kinda quick if you not careful. Especially if you’re the type who throw it in a bag or pocket.

So yeah, it looks great, feels high-end, but gotta handle it with some care.

Sound Signature – Rich, Warm and Still Detailed

So as we all know, copper cables sound warm, and silver gives a bit more brightness, right? This one got both, so it’s like the best of both worlds. It’s more copper dominant though, so the sound overall feel warm, but not like muffled or anything.

  • Bass – Now the bass here is real juicy. It’s got that rumble in the sub-bass, and yeah, the mid-bass hits a bit harder too. So drums, basslines, they all got more body. It’s not overdone though, just got that extra thump.
  • Mids – Oh man, this is where it shine for me. Vocals sound thick and full, especially male vocals. Got that meaty, chesty tone. Female vocals? They got air and smoothness, still got details, don’t lose the sparkle, but not sharp either. Just right.
  • Treble – Okay, this part might be a bit divisive. The cable do smooth out the treble a bit. So if you’re someone who love them super sparkly highs, this might feel a bit tame. But for me? I actually like it. It’s non-fatiguing, laid-back, easy to listen long hours.
  • Instruments – String instruments really shine here. Like violins, guitars, and violas sound more alive and emotional. There’s nice mid to high extension, without gettin’ harsh. Has that touch of warmth that just make music feel more real.
  • Soundstage & Imaging – Yep, it’s wide and open, both side-to-side and top-to-bottom. Instruments are placed properly. You can pinpoint where stuff is without any mess.

Pairings I Tried (Real World Testing)

Tried this cable with a bunch of my IEMs and here’s what I found:

  • Ikko OH10s – Already a bass monster, but with Neptune, it gets even more meat in the low-end. Vocals got more body too. Loved it.
  • Truthear Hola – Oh boy, big upgrade here. Makes it sound way more premium. Better bass, better separation, smoother highs. That was a good combo.
  • See Audio Yume 4 – Sounded clean and natural. Vocal layering was nice, and the staging opened up more.
  • NF Audio NE4 (Black Faceplate) – This pairing brought out more body in the mids and smoothed the highs. Still very detailed, but now more cozy to listen.

Final Thoughts

So yeah, the NMD Audio Neptune really surprised me. I wasn’t expecting it to change the sound this much, but it did. It gives your IEMs a warmer, thicker and more musical feel, while still keeping stuff clear and open.

It’s not for those who want bright and analytical sound, but if you like rich, smooth, soulful listening, this is gonna be right up your alley. Just be aware of the weight and stiffness, and you got yourself a cable that not only look premium but sound like it too.

Happy Listening
