Build and Design
The TC05 M2 is an upgrade over the previously released model from ddHiFi, the TC05. The new generation of the TC05 M2 uses a thicker gauge with even better shielding, with a silver-plated, oxygen-free copper conductor. Four-strand twisted pairs assure outstanding performance in data transmission while keeping much lower interference. Zinc alloy is used for the durable connector casings, strong and with aesthetic appeal. Two options of length are available: 9 cm and 50 cm, portable while versatile.
Performance and Features
- Directional OTG Functionality: This cable is designed for one-way OTG (On-The-Go) use, where the end marked “DAC” connects to the decoding device, and the ddHiFi-branded end connects to the playback source. This directional usage is essential for optimal data flow and avoids compatibility issues.
- Emergency Charging: While its primary purpose is data transmission for high-resolution audio, the TC05 M2 supports limited reverse charging for emergencies, capped at 18W.
- Specialized Usage: Unlike standard USB-C cables, it does not support general charging or bi-directional data transfer. This design ensures dedicated performance for audio decoding, making it ideal for audiophiles.
User Experience
The TC05 M2 has been praised for its excellent build quality and stable performance in audio applications. The shielding effectively prevents signal loss, and the connectors fit securely, ensuring a reliable connection even with regular use. However, some users may find its functionality limited due to its focus on OTG decoding rather than general-purpose use.
Value for Money
Priced at approximately $16 for the 9 cm version and $20 for the 50 cm version, the TC05 M2 offers excellent value for those who require a high-quality OTG cable tailored for audio equipment. The price is competitive given its durability and specialized design.
Conclusion
The ddHiFi TC05 M2 is a thoughtfully designed USB-C cable that caters to audiophiles who demand stable and interference-free connections for their high-resolution audio setups. While it may not serve as a general-purpose cable, its focused functionality and premium build quality make it a worthy investment for anyone serious about portable audio.
